The homeless problem in the Springfield community is growing and has become an incredible concern, predominantly for low or no income single women, and women with children. As community advocates for the homeless, our purpose is to help these families develop a relationship with Christ and to maintain sufficient financial stability to meet their existing and future needs.
The Contact Ministries Shelter for Women and Children provides immediate relief to women with children. In addition, we provide life’s basic needs – food, clothing, personal care items, laundry facilities, transportation, and telephones to make appointments. Supportive services provided include employment assistance, budgeting, family literacy, parenting classes, tutoring, and case management with a goal of finding and maintaining permanent housing.
Referrals are made for daycare, treatment centers, adult education, and other mainstream resources. We also work with District 186 to make sure that school-age children are attending classes.
